Most people are already one month into the New Year, but for other cultures, "the Year of the Horse" began on Sunday night.
West Virginia University hosted a Chinese New Year celebration at the Mountainlair, where even Morgantown Mayor Jenny Selin made an appearance.
Both Chinese and Vietnamese nationalities commemorate the holiday, and those who attended said it was a perfect opportunity to learn more learn more about each other's cultures.
"That's why we decided to wear our traditional clothes," said Tinh Dang, who is Vietnamese.
"In China, we'll have fireworks. I think the whole thing is because it's loud, and we can freak the monsters away," said Yun Luo.
The horse is part of a 12-year-cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac.
