Change the Future WV hosted a training session on Thursday for anyone who wants to help teach people how to self-manage their chronic diseases or diabetes.
The class is designed to have people who are affected by these chronic diseases or who care for people with chronic diseases to teach others who are affected.
"They're being trained to be leaders of this class and then they can go out into their communities and start classes at different locations," said Kari Yokochi, a Healthy Community Developer in Harrison County.
Sherry Ellem and Barbara Holt hosted the class on Thursday.
Ellem said it's better when people who know the effects first hand teach the courses.
"Peers teaching their peers is a very productive way to teach other people because they understand. I have diabetes and regardless of what chronic condition we have, we all have the same issues that come about," explained Ellem, a community health and wellness coordinator for Change the Future WV.
The training is a series of four classes that are completely free.
