Hundreds of soon-to-be brides flocked to the Bridgeport Conference Center on Sunday and were joined by one of West Virginia's own, who has made a name for himself in the worlds of fashion and reality television.
West Virginia native Monte Durham is the fashion director on Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta. He worked for years as a bridal image consultant and reported live for TLC from London during the royal wedding.
Durham came back to his home state for this year's West Virginia Weddings Extravaganza, a playground of sorts for those getting ready to walk down the aisle.
Bride-to-be Daphne Chester came all the way from Tennessee for the event.
"My fiance is from West Virginia, and so his mom told me about the show, and of course, I had to come see Monte. He is so personable, and that southern sass," said Chester.
The event offered classes on a variety of topics, from budget-minded brides to the perfect cake, and advice from Durham himself.
"He is such an inspiration to everybody in the wedding world. He has great tips and tricks, and he knows the trade," said Anna Carrier, owner of The Cupcakerie in Morgantown.
"It's very important to always give options, and you want to know why those options are there and how they can best work for you," said Durham.
Durham was happy to take questions from the audience, proving to everyone in his presence that he hasn't forgotten his roots.
"West Virginians love that he represents us and is in the know," said Nikki Bowman of WV Weddings.
"[I love] coming back home, being home, and definitely saying where I'm from…and where my home and my heart truly is," said Durham.
