Upshur and Randolph Counties are taking candidate filings for the May primary.
There are open seats on city council, board of education, and county commission.
On Monday, candidates started filing for positions in the City of Buckhannon. An election will be held May 13th, where voters will choose a city recorder and two council members. So far, incumbent city recorder Rich Clemens has filed for re-election.
John Waltz and Tom O'Neill's council seats are up this year. Waltz said he won't run again. O'Neill's status is unknown.
A vote for the continuation of excess levies to run and maintain the Charles W. Gibson Public Library is also on the ballot, along with elections for Upshur County Commission and three board of education seats. Those seats are for Greenbrier Almond, Teresa Bellamy, and Pat Long.
The same positions are up for grabs in Randolph County.
So far, current commission president Chris See and challenger George Riggleman Jr. have filed for county commission. Lisa Wamsley, David Tyre, and David Kesling are up for re-election for the Randolph County Board of Education. Wamsley so far has filed.
The last date to withdraw from the election is Tuesday, Feb. 11 and the drawing for position on the ballot will take place on Tuesday Feb. 18.
The last date for candidates to file in person is by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 24. Filings by mail must be postmarked by Jan. 25.
