Elkins Mayor Van Broughton wants to restart the DARE program for students in Randolph County.
Broughton said he's looking at other sources of funding to reinstate the program since there is no grant funding presently available.
Broughton said the idea is in it's beginning stages, and he's gotten support from law enforcement and school board officials.
Broughton wants to start the program at an early level for students.
"Elementary school age is a good time to start the youth on awareness of drugs, and tell them what it's all about in prevention. We do have a major drug problem in this country. Every small town, every big town where ever you go drugs is involved," said Broughton.
DARE is a prevention program dedicated to teaching students good decision-making skills and to help them lead safe and healthy lives.
