Malls are used to having bigger crowds before the holidays. But with people returning presents and using gift cards, some have to be prepared for a second rush. Morgantown Mall is packed with shoppers and managers expect it to get even busier during the holiday weekend. They say it's because Christmas fell in the middle of a work week.
Morgantown Mall had travelers coming in to make exchanges from out of state on Friday.
"We're just stopping by Hollister because we don't have a store in Cumberland, Maryland," said Julie Salonish. "So we came by the mall today to make a return."
Mall Managers also say there are a number of After Christmas sales going on. As much as 70 percent off the entire purchase in some stores.
Hibbett Sports Assistant Manager William Pratt says that the sports store is offering some great deals.
"Right now we have a sale for 20 percent off of WVU clothing," said Pratt. "And our Nike fleece stuff like hoodies, sweat pants, and all of that, I think that's 30 percent off right now."
"It's a good time to take advantage of the sales," said Salonish.
There is also an increase of people coming to spend their gift cards they received.
Pratt says that gift cards are great way to help people out that want to purchase a big ticket item.
"I would say overall it helps out because you get a gift card for a certain amount and they see some other stuff they see it as a discount," Pratt said. "So it probably helps because a gift card is only so much so they see it as a discount on a more expensive item."
The Morgantown Mall is ready for the bigger crowds this weekend but will no longer be running on holiday shopping hours. It will be operating from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Noon 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Charlotte Russe, Aeropostale, and Hibbett Sports are all having sales this weekend.
