Members of the White Hall Town Council met in Marion County met on Monday evening, where Christmas came early for some local organizations.
Council members voted to distribute more than $10,000 of the town's Hotel/Motel Tax to three different groups.
Valley Falls State Park, the Three Rivers Festival, and the Town of Rivesville are the beneficiaries of those funds, which are used to benefit local fairs, festivals, and state parks.
Mayor Guy Ward said White Hall is one of only three entities in the county to have this tax, which requires travelers to pay a 12 percent surcharge on rooms at local hotels and motels to help stimulate the local economy.
"Basically, the idea behind the hotel/motel tax was to promote tourism, so that's where the money mainly goes to bring in more people to the county," said Ward.
Ward said those funds were previously allocated for the town's sidewalk project but council recently learned that state code did not classify that as a "beautification" project.
Council plans to continue to look into that matter.
