Residents may have noticed a new seasonal addition to the Marion County Courthouse this holiday season.
The Women's Club of Fairmont teamed up with the Marion County Commission and Mt. Zion Nursery to put a new spin on decorations at the courthouse.
Nancy Bickerstaff, Women's Club President, said new decorations were purchased for the courthouse and downtown Fairmont area in 1990 and there hasn't been a change until now.
One of the decorations that can be seen at the courthouse includes a Santa Claus water skiing. Bickerstaff said it has a special meaning.
"We put together a banner that says 'Rock the Riverfront' that was used here at the Women's Club to get cooperation between the city and the county," Bickerstaff said.
Other new decorations include red and green lights on the courthouse, candles in the windows, several wreaths, and a huge Christmas tree.
"It worked out that we have 450 lights on a live tree, a big live tree from Mt. Zion," Bickerstaff added.
Several Marion County maintenance workers worked hard to put up the decorations, Bickerstaff said. Those include Jeff Biafore, Rob Holmes and Bill Wilkerson.
The decorations will be up until the end of December.
