When you think of pizza you might think a classic pepperoni and cheese or maybe supreme.
A new restaurant in Bridgeport promotes a different type of pizza.
Scott Duarte opened Mia Margherita after years of working in the restaurant business.
He said Mia Margherita features a combination of Italian and American style cooking.
The menu features several Italian comfort items.
"We do pastas, we do risottos, we have many comfort Italian foods such as menesha, stews, fresh salads, paninis," Duarte explained.
The list goes on and on but the main thing Mia Margherita serves is pizza.
"Margherita pizza is of course fresh dough, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella which is different from your shredded mozzarella, fresh basil, we put a little bit of pesto on at the end, and brush the crust with a little bit of olive oil," explained Duarte.
The pizza is cooked in a coal fired oven which Duarte says makes a difference.
"We cook pizzas in and around 800 to 1000 degrees. It's a quick cooking process. It produces a nice crisp exterior and a bubbly texture and it makes a difference. We like the way it produces great pizza," Duarte said.
Mia Margherita has only been open a few weeks but already has customers coming back for more. Including Drew Pomeroy, who said he has been there about a half a dozen times already.
"Of course you can't go wrong with the pizzas, they have multiple different options whether its pepperoni and cheese or a bit more exotic, it's great Italian comfort food," Pomeroy said.
On top of great food and a relaxing atmosphere Mia Margherita prides itself in its customer service.
"We really do everything we can to go above and beyond for our customers making sure that they are taken care of. Whatever the request we do the best to accommodate everyone," explained Patrick Lesmann, the General Manager of Mia Margherita.
Mia Margherita can be found in Bridgeport at Charles Pointe.
It's open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
