Greenbrier Valley Theatre will present a concert by the West Virginia Jazz Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at GVT on Washington Street in Lewisburg.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and children. For tickets or more information, call the GVT box office at 304-645-3838.
Audience members will be entertained by a mix of musical styles from Big Band Swing, to mainstream Jazz, to Motown to 80s classic rock. Half the concert will be devoted to traditional Christmas music, with the other half devoted to music the WVJO has recently added to its repertoire, including many more contemporary pieces. The audience can expect anything from the 60s through the 90s.
GVT Artistic Director Cathey Sawyer, a frequent WVJO collaborator, will be joining the band for several Christmas songs, and will duo on "Baby it's Cold Outside" with percussionist Gary Williams. Jeff Bryant will sing with the band on the Doobie Brother's song "Taking it to the Streets" and the Motown classic "Soulman."
The West Virginia Jazz Orchestra has been together for more than a decade.
"We originally thought it would stay together for one concert, here we are 11 years later," Bryant said.
They perform locally and throughout the state and have played with numerous jazz greats, including Ellis Marsalis, Jr.
