The Bridgeport Fire Department and Emergency Services held their annual food drive Saturday for Shepherd's Corner.
Fire trucks drove up and down the streets of Bridgeport and residents brought out food donations.
The fire department said the drive was more successful than previous years, despite the bad weather.
Shepherd's Corner's shelves were fully stocked after the drive.
Every year around this time the city of Bridgeport comes together to collect food for the needy.
"The Fire Department along with the police department, and the city employees we all get together and we have a food drive every year to help the Shepherd's Corner," said Chuck Feathers, Bridgeport Fire Department Chief.
The annual food drive will be held on Saturday, December 14. Feathers said the fire department is always looking to help any way it can.
"We try to find a way to help anybody in need and Shepherd's Corner is always in need helping other people. That's what the fire department and emergency services here in the city are all about," explained Feathers.
On Saturday firefighters will drive their fire trucks up and down the streets of Bridgeport to collect food and Santa Claus will even ride along.
Karen Lang, Shepherd's Corner Coordinator, said the items the fire department collects will help the food pantry all year round.
"It really helps us because they really fill up our food pantry. The people of Bridgeport when they canvas the area they really give generously and usually what we get from the food drive lasts us the whole year," Lang said.
Shepherd's Corner also provides the needy with clothes.
Lang said when the temperatures drop there is a steady flow of people into Shepherd's Corner just to get something warm.
"Warm things: blankets, coats, scarves, and gloves. Just anything to keep anybody warm from adults to small babies," said Lang.
And Lang said those items are always needed.
"If they want to donate throughout the year they can just bring it down to Shepherd's Corner. We're open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.," Lang explained.
The food drive will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
