Fairmont City Council has approved the purchase of the Wesbanco Building on Merchant Street. The $360,000 purchase will make way for the Fairmont Collections Department. City officials said the building will be safer for employees and more convenient for customers.
Wesbanco will stay in the building and pay rent to the city. One of the drive through lanes will be used for city purposes only. The expected closing date on the property is December 30th.
Just across the Monongahela River in Fairmont, is another project WBOY has been following. Marion County Commission said progress on the new state building is right on track. A Pittsburgh construction company is working on the $17 million dollar project. Commissioners expect the building to bring more than 200 jobs to Fairmont. It's expected to be finished sometime next year.
