Now almost seven months later it's ready to reopen.
"They are 90 percent complete and most of that 10 percent that may not be exactly done it behind the scenes," said Robin Urquhart, Meadowbrook Mall Marketing Director.
If you haven't been to the Meadowbrook Mall lately, Urquhart said you will notice a big change.
"If you come out this weekend for the grand reopening you will see a lot of new features. It looks like a brand new mall. We had totally new entrances built, new facade, the entire building has been power washed. The entrances have been made into an actual structure. Before the doors just opened and it was like walking into a block building," said Urquhart.
The mall also has new tiles in center court and the rest of the floors are carpeted. There are also new lighting fixtures and brand new Christmas decorations, including a 20-foot-tall Santa set.
"If you haven't caught a glimpse yet of the teddy bear tree it's a must see. It's a huge plush teddy bear that sits on top of a 12 foot tree," Urquhart said.
Meadowbrook Mall staff members are ready to display all of these changes on Saturday and Sunday with a huge grand reopening celebration.
"We open all mall doors at 8 a.m. Most of the folks that are coming in early are probably coming in to get in line to see Caroline Sunshine or Nathan Cress," Urquhart explained.
There will be a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. and other events throughout the day on Saturday including appearances by Miss West Virginia and Marvel's Thor.
On Sunday Landau E. Murphy Jr. will be performing from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There will also be an appearance by Spider Man, and other events.
Urquhart said the mall staff hopes the renovations will keep the shoppers coming.
"It says to our shoppers 'continue to shop here, we care about you, we want to bring you a great shopping experience, and a great atmosphere to do your shopping in," said Urquhart.
Mall doors open at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
