The University Healthcare board of directors and health system executives recently recognized an outgoing board director for his years of service to the health system.
Robert Baronner Jr., the current board chairman and board director since 2008, was presented a plaque at a recent board planning retreat. His term on the board expires in January.
Baronner has been the chief executive officer and president of Bank of Charles Town since 2001. Before that, he was a senior credit officer of BB&T Northern West Virginia and held executive positions at One Valley Bank East starting in 1994.
He is a Charleston native whose father helped pioneer branch banking in West Virginia when he served as president of Kanawha Valley Bank starting in the mid-1970s.
Baronner, a graduate of George Washington High, earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Virginia Tech in 1981. He began his professional career as a Pennsylvania-based credit manager with Ralston-Purina, then earned his MBA at now-Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md.
He first worked as a banker at Sandy Spring National Bank, a large network of community banks in suburban Maryland.
Board members and hospital executives present at the retreat where Baronner was honored include David DeJarnett, Keith Berkeley, Fred Butcher, Christina DeRosa, Richard Knapp, Jackee Long, Dr. Konrad C. Nau, Anthony Zelenka, Rhonda Monroe and Nicholas Trietsch.
