The Marion County Commission is recognizing Pierpont Community and Technical College for the impact it has had on the community and the state.
The Commission said a four-year institution isn't for everyone and that's where Pierpont steps in.
It provides vital workforce training to citizens and its graduates land many jobs in the county.
Commissioners said the institution has helped boost the Marion County economy.
"It means a lot to the downtown Fairmont area by expanding and coming down here. it brings opportunities for restaurants and the people to expand their businesses in the downtown area. We enjoy having them down here. It's a big asset to the downtown area," said Randy Elliot, of the Marion County Commission.
The Marion County Commission proclaimed Friday, November 15 as Pierpont Community and Technical College Day.
