D-II College Basketball Preview: Fairmont State Women

2012-13 Record: 23-10

The Fairmont State Women's Basketball team is learning to move on with life after Kaitlyn Snyder. Snyder was one of the top players in not only the program, but in the entire WVIAC last year.

But Head Coach Steve McDonald has been doing this a long time.

McDonald has reshaped the roster and has the Lady Falcons primed for another deep run in the new Mountain East Conference.

Fairmont State won the WVIAC Tournament Championship last year, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Hailey Garrett and Emily Lohr return to anchor the FSU front line. Coaches and players said last year's late-season success has carried over in the form of plenty of confidence for the upcoming season.

"We know we're not going to replace Kaitlyn Snyder, so we're not attempting to. What we're trying to do is just have the best basketball team that we can have. We think we have a lot of talent, but we also have a lot of new players. Anytime that happens, you have to really take great care in being somewhat patient as a coach. Sometimes that's difficult for me because I expect a lot out of our kids," Fairmont State Women's Basketball Head Coach Steve McDonald said.

"Coach is stressing transition and screening the ball early and stuff like that. I think it will be kind of the same as last year, but maybe a little bit more running," Lady Falcons junior forward Hailey Garrett said.
