Songs of tribute were played Wednesday evening by the Mohigan Marching Band as a way to pay tribute to fallen veterans who served in the armed forces.
The Metropolitan theater in downtown Morgantown filled with crowds of students, parents, and veterans Wednesday night, all piling in to hear the band play tribute. Morgantown and University high schools combined orchestras and were also joined by many other groups to show respect for veterans.
Local veteran Gary Fawley said that he's from the Morgantown area and attended the Met Theater when he was a young man. He also said that he was in band when he attended Morgantown High School.
"Well it's pretty exciting. My nephew is in the performance; the music and what they play brings back memories and we all appreciate it," said Fawley.
Fawley also said that this patriotic program brings back memories of what America is built on. He also said it was a nice evening to pay tribute to fallen service men and women. Veterans Appreciation Week is Nov. 5 through Nov. 11.
On Friday, veterans will be honored at a recognition ceremony during the East/West football game in Fairmont.
