Annual holiday charity drives are getting underway, including the local Toys for Tots.
The Veterans of West Virginia University student organization run the program.
Four of its members went to Toys R Us on Monday to purchase toys for the campaign.
The money was donated by Toys R Us.
"Toys R Us is one of our national sponsors; they donated $2000 to our campaign for us to come and buy toys and get the word out. We're going to spend that money here, hopefully get a lot of toys and start off this campaign," said Michael Pamfilis, the coordinator of the North Central West Virginia Toys for Tots program.
This was the first of two toy buys that the veterans will do.
They will also host fundraisers including one at the Orange Blossom Trail Music Hall on Saturday, November 9, and one at Heston Farms Winery.
The North Central West Virginia Toys for Tots covers Harrison, Doddridge, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Taylor Counties.
Children newborn to 15 years old can be registered to receive toys.
Registration for Toys for Tots in our area ends on November 8.
