The Humane Society of the United States will be awarding Tim Miley, Speaker of the House of Delegates, with a Humane Legislator of the Year Award.
It comes from his dedication to animal related issues during the 2013 legislative session.
Speaker Miley was instrumental in the passing of a law which will provide a funding mechanism for spaying and neutering in West Virginia, according to the Humane Society of the United States.
The fund is administrated by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture and is funded by donations and grants.
A law to regulate large scale commercial dog breeders was also victorious in 2013, according to the Humane Society of the United States.
It established regulations for health, sanitation, and overall humane treatment of dogs raised in these facilities in West Virginia.
Speaker Miley will be presented with the award at the Humane Society of Harrison County on November 5. The event will begin at 6 p.m.
