Jarvisville Woman Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter in Death of Grandson

Posted: Updated:

A Harrison County woman indicted on an involuntary manslaughter charge in connection with the death of her grandson pleaded guilty Thursday.

Harrison County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Rachel Romano said Tina Owens, 57, of Jarvisville was emotional during the plea hearing and that her family was there to support her.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department said Owens fired multiple .40-caliber handgun shots into the dark on June 30 after hearing suspected intruders outside her home. One bullet entered through the side of her son's home, about 200 ft. away, where her grandson was sleeping in his bed. The bullet struck her grandson in the chest.

Owens' sentencing is scheduled for December. A misdemeanor charge of involuntary manslaughter can carry a sentence of up to one year in the regional jail. The Harrison County Prosecutor's office is recommending probation for Owens.
