Global Science and Technology in Fairmont Awarded Task Order to Improve Weather Prediction

Posted: Updated:

Global Science and Technology has been awarded a task order to continue operations and expand the National Mesonet Program.

It has a maximum value of more than $10 million over a one-year performance period and will improve weather prediction.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration runs the National Mesonet Program.

Mesonets are found throughout the country and allow a real time look at weather.

"If a mobile platform is finding that the road temperature is less than freezing and maybe it's precipitating, show me those areas! That's how they are doing it. It's all about alerts, and monitoring and getting it to the forecasters so the forecaster when he is looking at the analysis has much more information then he did years ago," said Paul Heppner, GST National Mesonet Program Manager Paul Heppner.

There are fixed stations in 28 states. Mobile platforms can take real time weather data for use by NOAA.
