Safariland Saves Club is a group of officers who have been saved by the body armor or duty gear it provides over the last 40 years.
Lieutenant Steve Ford of the Morgantown Police Department was added to the Saves Club Monday.
Ford faced a situation where a suspect had both hands on his gun and was trying to take it out of his holster but was unable to.
The gear provided by Safariland potentially saved his life.
"Our company doesn't make widgets. We make items that the officers have to and often do count on to be the difference between them coming home at the end of a shift and them not coming home. We feel that we're also responsible to go out and thank them for their heroic efforts. And we have an entire team that backs the Safariland Group Saves program," said Ed Hinchey, Safariland Saves Club director.
Safariland said that their gear has already helped save the lives of around 50 officers this year alone.
