Amy M. Wix has joined the faculty of New River Community and Technical College as an instructor and fieldwork coordinator for the occupational therapy assistant program that is under development at the school.
Pending its accreditation, the program will begin enrolling students next fall. It is headquartered at New River's Center for Rehabilitation Sciences and Medical Assisting Education in Beckley.
Wix comes to New River from Genesis Rehabilitation Services, where she was a denials management specialist and dementia educator.
Wix earned a bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies and a master's in occupational therapy at West Virginia University and a doctorate in occupational therapy from Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
An occupational therapist licensed in West Virginia, Virginia and Georgia, she is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the West Virginia Occupational Therapy Association.
New River Community and Technical College is marking its 10th anniversary. The school serves nine counties in southeastern West Virginia from locations in Princeton, Summersville, Beckley, Lewisburg and Ghent.
