The annual Tygart Lake State Park fall festival brought in people of all ages to enjoy some fall weather.
The sixth annual festival offered the crowds hay rides, a lumberjack presentation, and more.
"This year we have apple butter making, glass blowing by Fred Wilkerson, and new this year we have the WVU woodsman's team doing a lumberjack presentation which should be a crowd pleaser. We also have kid's activities, crafters, and two wineries," said Nichole Streets, of Tygart Lake State Park.
Crowds gathered to watch a father and son duo from Moundsville create one-of-a-kind objects out of glass.
"We do art glass, vases, paper weights, a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces and we do a lot of pressed items. The figurines that you see are all molded items so we're basically gathering the glass, lowering it into a mold and pressing it into shape," said Fred Wilkerson, with Wilkerson Glass.
Wilkerson learned the business of glass blowing from his father and they've made a family business out of it. Wilkerson said it's a complicated process.
"We start by melting the glass in a furnace we take it up to a couple thousand degrees. We work it anywhere between 1,800 and 2,000 degrees but we start off by melting it, gathering the molten glass and then shaping it," Wilkerson said.
The Tygart Lake State Park Gift Shop sells Wilkerson Glass, so the Wilkersons said they like to come and demonstrate how the items are made. Wilkerson said doing the demonstrations can help with sales.
"It's a big plus and it helps to boost the sales because when people can actually see how it's done it does make a difference," Wilkerson said.
Streets said Tygart Lake State Park benefits from hosting festivals and events like this one.
"It brings money to the park and it stays in the park so it helps us improve different areas of the park. For someone that hasn't visited the park before, they come and realize how much we have to offer not just during events but all throughout the year," Streets said.
