Buffalo Lake in Harrison County was once known for swimming, fishing, or boating. The county sold the lake and the land and it's been closed to the public ever since.
The property is now for sale.
Buffalo Lake is being auctioned off by Joe R. Pyle Complete Auction and Realty Service. Kevin Teets is the general manager and said this is a unique opportunity.
"This is a very rare opportunity for buyers of all walks of life to be able to come and participate in an auction. This property has been closed to the public for about 17 years," Teets said.
It's one large property for sale.
"There's 680 acres plus a 55-acre lake. The depths go up to 40 some feet, and the dam has been inspected and certified by Thrasher Engineering," Teets said.
Teets said there are some great benefits to Buffalo Lake.
"The fishing is phenomenal, because essentially it's sat here for 17 years untouched. I'm not a very good fisherman, and I caught a ton of fish," explained Teets.
And the great fishing isn't the only positive aspect to the property.
"It would be a perfect development property. The lake is stretched out; the way the fingers run there is a lot of opportunity for lake front properties," Teets said.
The Buffalo Lake Auction is an absolute auction, which means it will sell to the highest bidder, with no minimum price.
"It doesn't matter if it sells for $100,000 or $100 million, it's going to sell to the highest bidder. It's very exciting and it's a very rare opportunity," said Teets.
The auction will take place November 6 at 5 p.m.. Anyone from the public is welcome at the auction which will take place at Buffalo Lake.
