Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is working with area law enforcement to keep county kids safe.
The hospital will be taking part in an active shooter drill in early November.
The drill is part of a collaboration with the county school board and county law enforcement, among other groups.
Organizers said it's more important than ever for everyone involved to be prepared for a crisis.
"The possibility of an active shooter in a school or a public place, while it's very disturbing, is real. So it's really important that we learn to work with one another, that we learn each other's systems," said Michael Barrick, of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Officials will be holding a community forum to share more about the drill. It's open to anyone, and will be held in the high school auditorium on Tuesday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
