Nutter Fort Town Council honored some of its firefighters on Tuesday evening for rescuing two people while they were on vacation on September 13.
Fire Chief Jeremy Haddix, Deputy Chief Ryan Roberts, and Lieutenant Taylor Keith were on vacation in Myrtle Beach when they heard cries for help from the water.
They swam out and rescued two people, who were about 80 yards out.
"We started in towards the bank, and neither one of them could speak English, they were from Canada and spoke French. We got them into shore, started CPR and assisted with CRP along with North Myrtle Beach Fire and EMS. When I saw it we knew we had the ability to help and I couldn't just stand by and let it happen," said Haddix.
Mayor Nathan Rohrbaugh presented the firefighters with a plaque honoring their good deed.
Rohrbaugh also announced Trick-or-Treat times for Nutter Fort at the meeting on Tuesday.
Trick-or-Treat will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on October 31st, followed by a Halloween party at the fire department at 7 p.m.
The Nutter Fort Fire Department is also hosting an "Ultimate Giveaway" on Saturday, October 12.
