The Manufacturing Institute said 67 percent of manufacturers report a moderate to severe shortage of qualified workers.
Pierpont Community and Technical College is training students to help change those statistics.
Students will participate in National Manufacturing Day Friday, by inviting the community to talk to students and professors about their field of study.
"Part of our curriculum we actually do manufacturing. We have a manufacturing simulator that the students do in their last semester as kind of their capstone project that simulates the manufacturing environment. We are setting that up to demo that," said Gene Turchin, Mecatronics Coordinator.
Pierpont Community and Technical College said it's preparing students to meet the demand for skilled workers.
