Fairmont City Council has set public hearings on two ordinances to transfer properties between the city and county.
One ordinance would accept the transfer of the 100 Block of Adams Street from Marion County Commission to the city.
The other would authorize the transfer of the city-owned part of Palatine Park to the county.
The county said it's excited to get the ball rolling.
"It's what we ultimately wanted to get done and it appears that the resolutions are made. the properties will be transferred. its just a wonderful day to see we are finally going to be able to accomplish what we want to accomplish at Palatine and the City I'm sure will do a great job with the 100 block and what they propose to put there in the future," said Randy Elliot, of the Marion County Commission.
Those hearings and the council's vote will be held at its October 22 meeting.
It seems that the Palatine Park revitalization in Fairmont is all that people around town are talking about.
Marion County Commission has taken the next step to acquire the City of Fairmont's property at Palatine Park to further that project.
Commission has agreed to transfer the 100 Block of Adams Street to the City in exchange for its property at the park.
"I'm glad that we have had a great sense of cooperation with the City of Fairmont in being able to trade the property. They can use the 100 block, which is green space. We can use the green space at Palatine to expand our riverfront development," said Randy Elliot, of the Marion County Commission.
Commission said it expects the city to make the same agreement at next Tuesday's meeting.
