A teenage girl was killed when her car slid off of the Mason-Dixon Highway late Monday night, according to West Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. near the Mason-Dixon Elementary School outside of Blacksville. Troopers said speed was a factor in the crash, but did not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved.
West Virginia State Police identified the girl as Sydney Rush, 16, of Wadestown. Rush was a student at Clay-Battelle High School. A school official said there were counselors available at the school Tuesday to talk to students.
State Police are investigating the crash.
Clay-Battelle High School is postponing all homecoming plans this weekend indefinitely, following the death of Rush.
All athletic events are also canceled for this weekend. The football game will be played Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
