The West Virginia Watershed Conference was held at the Waterfront Place Hotel Friday.
The West Virginia Bass Nation tournament will be next weekend and several groups got together to show how far the Mon River has come over the past 35 years.
Fisheries Biologists said the water quality is continually getting better.
They are also trying to bring awareness to the lock and dams situation.
"I'm not sure the public understands that two of the locks on this river are closed now. They are only opened for special events. We managed to get six days this year; that was it. The Core helped us with that, they're working with us but they have no money. So they opened these locks for six days. And it was three separate events," said Tim Mitchem, President of Bass Nation of WV.
The locks will be opened for the West Virginia Bass Nation tournament next Saturday.
