The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named James Pucci of Davis and Elkins Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week. Pucci guided his team to a 7-0 win over Ohio Valley in the G-MAC opener and then scored all three goals in a come-from-behind win over California (Pa).
James Pucci has been named G-MAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week following an impressive individual effort this past week in which he scored four times in the Senators G-MAC opener against Ohio Valley, and then scored all three goals against California (Pa.) in a 3-2 come-from-behind win.
Davis and Elkins opened the week with its first-ever G-MAC game in any sport, and the preseason favorites rolled to a 7-0 win over fellow G-MAC newcomer Ohio Valley. Pucci scored the first two goals of the game, and then the first two goals of the second half as well. The win was the first of the season for D&E and began what now stands at a three-game unbeaten streak.
Pucci's four-goal performance ties the conference record set last season by Jonathan Baskin of Trevecca Nazarene who scored four times against Concord. Pucci was not done with the offensive onslaught.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half to California (Pa.), Pucci scored three times to carry his team to the win. He scored his first goal just three minutes into the second half. He then tied the game with 20 minutes left and put away the game-winner with just a minute and a half left in regulation.
Pucci has eight goals on the season and an assist for 17 points, eight points ahead of anyone else in the league. His eight goals are five more than anyone, and are equal to or more than three teams have as a team total this season through five or six contests.
