The Elkins Police Department has arrested a man in connection to a Pleasant Avenue stabbing Wednesday afternoon.
Police have charged Larry Thomas Gainer, Jr., 38, of Elkins, with malicious assault after he stabbed a man, according to a criminal complaint. The stabbing victim was transported to Davis Memorial Hospital by Randolph County EMS. That man's condition was unavailable Thursday morning, said Elkins Police Chief Rob White.
A witness told police that the two men had a verbal altercation, followed by Gainer saying "I'm going to stab him", in reference to the other man. The witness told Gainer not to stab the man, according to the complaint. The witness told police that he saw Gainer stab the man one time with a large knife before he threw Gainer to the ground and removed the knife from his hand.
Gainer is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bail set at $50,000.
West Virginia State Police also assisted at the scene.
Authorities responded to the scene of a reported stabbing on Wednesday afternoon in Randolph County.
Randolph County 911 officials said the incident happened around 4:20 p.m. on Pleasant Avenue in Elkins.
Randolph County EMS took one person to Davis Memorial Hospital, according to 911 officials.
Elkins police are investigating, but 911 officials said one person was taken into custody.
