Marion County's future "Make a Splash" park could possibly transform into an ice skating park in the winter.
The Development Authority said commissioners were concerned about the new splash park not being used year round.
Now, Thrasher Engineering is designing a 50 by 60 foot ice skating rink at the site.
Commission said if the rink is popular, it would consider building a separate rink for year-round use.
The Marion County Development Authority has announced that Thrasher Engineering of Bridgeport was awarded the bid for Palatine Park's redevelopment.
Three companies were interviewed by the Development Authority last week but Thrasher came out on top.
$1 million has been invested into the revitalization the park and authorities believe Thrasher has what it takes to make their visions, a reality.
"It's Marion County's Palatine Park. We've invited all the mayors from Marion County to this just to let everybody know it's the county's park and they're welcome to attend it. This is one project that will be completed," said Charlie Reese, of the Marion County EDA.
Thrasher Engineering said phase one of Palatine Park will finish in the spring.
The Marion County Commission is searching for a company to handle engineering services at Palatine Park.
It put out an advertisement last week and said it has already heard back from several interested companies.
The project is expected to cost less than a million dollars and will include the construction of a splash park and bathroom facility.
"We've already got the sidewalks in, if they design more sidewalks or whatever. I know the city had a pavilion which I liked that idea. If we get the land, we will probably throw in a pavilion also. So hopefully you'll see dirt, I'd like to see dirt moving," said Charlie Reese, of the Marion County Development Authority.
The commission said it is happy with how past the redevelopment is happening.
It hopes to have hired an engineering company by October 4.
