A West Virginia University football player was arrested Wednesday in Monongalia County and charged with second degree sexual assault.

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department arrested linebacker D'Vante Henry, a first-year transfer to the team from Arizona Western College.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman told deputies Henry entered her apartment early Sunday morning, and forced her to have sex with him.

When she told Henry to stop, he told her to "shut up," according to the complaint.

Henry told deputies that the sex was consensual.

West Virginia University officials confirmed Thursday that Henry is indefinitely suspended from the team.

A statement from West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen calls the charges against Henry "troubling and very serious."

It goes on to say Henry "is no longer a Mountaineer."

Henry never took the field for WVU. Before the team's first regular season game against William and Mary, Holgorsen said the three-star linebacker would redshirt. A redshirt means a delay in participation to extend his eligibility.

The statement from Holgorsen said Henry understood there were "strict parameters put in place that he had to abide by in order to play next season."

Henry was sent to the North Central Regional Jail Wednesday evening with bail set at $100,000.
