A fire chief who was involved in an ATV accident Saturday night has died.
Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shane Jividen died just after 6 p.m. Sunday night after sustaining injuries from a crash in Webster County.
Fellow firefighters said Jividen was riding on a multi-use vehicle when the crash happened.
He was attending a fundraiser for the Webster Springs Fire Department.
Hundreds of family, friends and community members gathered at the fire station for a candlelight vigil to remember the chief.
"Shane was a terrific guy. He would help anybody any time. He was a person you could depend on, a person you could call. He was a friend, he was like a brother. It's a major loss to this community, and to this fire department. It's a very major loss is all I can say," said David Turley, assistant fire chief.
Friends and family said Jividen loved being a fire fighter. He joined the station when he was just 16 years old.
The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
