The town of White Hall has worked for several years to annex a neighborhood. Residents of Cloverdale Heights asked the town council to be annexed in.
The neighborhood submitted petitions in July showing that more than 50 percent of property owners support the annexation.
Mayor Guy Ward said a engineer has surveyed the property and that only a few steps remain until the annexation becomes official.
"It will take two meetings," he said. "We will have an ordinance on September 9. The following meeting we will have a public hearing and read the ordinance again. Then we will go before the County Commission sometime at the end of September of the first of October."
Mayor Ward said because everyone seems to be on board, the process will move quickly. He expects the annexation to be finalized by the end of October.
He also said Cloverdale residents, as well as the newly annexed Nichols Drive residents, will quickly see the benefits.
They'll get police and fire protection, road repairs, and snow removal in the winter.
Ward said White Hall has about 700 residents and needs nearly 2,000 to become a city.
He said with the way the town is growing, that could happen sooner than later.
