A Monongalia County man who pleaded guilty to child abuse charges was in court for sentencing Monday.
John Kelch was sentenced to two consecutive terms of no less than one year and no more than five years in a state penitentiary.
Kelch's attorney requested Kelch be put on probation because of his parents' ailing health and son being deployed to Afghanistan, but was denied.
Three of the victims spoke out in the court and requested that Kelch receive the maximum sentence.
Kelch previously pleaded guilty to one count of domestic battery and two counts of child abuse creating injury. He will also serve one year for the domestic battery charge, with credit for the five months he served awaiting his trial.
Earlier this month, Kelch's son testified in court that accusations against Kelch of child abuse and sexual abuse weren't true.
