A traffic reconstruction officer has completed an investigation of a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred on August 19 on South High Street in Morgantown, according to the Morgantown Police Department.
On August 19, Morgantown authorities responded to an auto-pedestrian accident. Morgantown police said a 2008 Nissan Altima, driven by Levi Alexander Sooy, 24 of Morgantown, was traveling north on South High Street when it hit a pedestrian, identified as Robert McClain, 79 of Morgantown, as he was walking east crossing South High Street at the intersection. According to police, Sooy failed to see McClain as he was crossing the street.
The completed report of the investigation, including an analysis of Sooy's vehicle, has been submitted to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Morgantown police said officers and prosecutors are currently awaiting the results of the forensic testing samples taken from Sooy.
The driver of the vehicle that hit and killed a pedestrian in Morgantown on Monday has been identified.
The preliminary investigation into the incident identified Levi Alexander Sooy, 24 of Morgantown, as the driver of a 2008 Nissan Altima that hit and killed a pedestrian, identified as Robert McClain, 79 of Morgantown, on South High Street, according to the Morgantown Police Department.
Police said Sooy was driving the Altima was traveling north on South High Street Monday night when the vehicle hit McClain, who was crossing the street at the intersection of Simpson Street. According to the police department Sooy failed to see McClain as he was crossing the street.
Sooy was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital and submitted blood samples for forensic testing, police said.
Traffic Reconstruction Officers and Detectives responded to the scene and began an initial investigation Monday. Witnesses were also identified and their statements were taken following the accident. Police said the Altima was impounded for examination.
Officers are waiting to receive the forensic test results and plan to consult the Monongalia County Prosecutor's Office before completing the investigation.

A Morgantown driver hit and killed a pedestrian on South High Street Monday night, according to the Morgantown Police Department.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., a driver heading north on South High Street in the direction of West Virginia University's campus struck a pedestrian crossing the street at the intersection of Simpson Street, according to the release.
The pedestrian, identified as James Robert McClain, 79 of Morgantown, died of injuries received in the incident, according to police.
The incident is still under investigation by Detectives and Traffic Reconstruction officers of the Morgantown Police Department. Morgantown Police are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them at 304-284-7522.
Monongalia County EMS and the Morgantown Fire Department also responded to the scene. The scene was not reported to be cleared until shortly before midnight.
