A Lewis County church was helping kids get ready for their return to school this week.
The Broad Street United Methodist Church held a school supply giveaway Sunday.
Volunteers collected 100 backpacks and 30 three-ring binders, and stuffed them with supplies to hand out to families.
Organizers said there's a lot of need throughout the county, especially in rural areas.
"I talked to a woman who works at Alum Bridge school today, and she said she could think off the top of her head of at least 20 students that will come to school on Thursday and not have any supplies to bring with them, and that's just one school, and Alum Bridge is really small," said Dodie Arbogast, who helped to organize the giveaway.
