Volunteer fire departments are run completely by fundraising.
One of the Star City Volunteer Fire Department's biggest fundraiser is their annual Brewfest. The event is usually held in April at Mylan Park.
This year they decided to hold a second Brewfest on Saturday to welcome back WVU students, and invite the public out for one last celebration before school begins.
"It's kind of a chance to relate with the community. It gives us a chance to react with them. Get to know them, let them get to know us," said Lt Ryan Gillespie. "We have a population of about 10,000 college students in our first due area, so it gives us a chance to get to know them as well."
Brewfest is $20 for admission if you plan to drink, and $15 for designated drivers and people between the ages of 18 and 20. Those who drink can purchase a beer mug for an extra amount to use through out the day.
The fire department sets up bus runs that pick up and drop back off at the WVU Coliseum, different apartment complexes, and at Brewfest's location (Mylan Park) to prevent guests from drinking and driving.
Fireworks at 10 p.m. Saturday evening, August 17. All of the proceeds benefit the Star City Volunteer Fire Department. It does intend to hold two Brewfest events next year.
