Learning how to protect yourself can be a very useful tool. Especially if you're a woman in fear of an attacker.
The Krav Maga Center in Morgantown held a Women's Self Defense class Saturday to teach women how to fight off an attacker.
Krav Maga is Hebrew for Contact Combat, it's a highly effective battle and street tested Israeli system of self-defense, fighting skills and defensive tactics.
The instructor, Nick Pasquale, said one important thing to know about learning to defend yourself using Krav Maga is it's not a sport like karate or other martial art type of techniques.
"Krav Maga is not, there's no sportsmanship. You poke them in the eye, kick them in the groin, bite them, scratch them, whatever you have to do to survive. It's strictly street," said Pasquale, who is the owner of the Krav Maga Center and the state director. "We teach them how to defend against knives, baseball bat attacks, guns, how to disarm all of those weapons and then turn it against the attacker."
Students also learn how to use verbal and non verbal skills to keep people who are a threat away.
Pasquale does plan to hold another women's self defense class in a few weeks. If you would like to get in contact with Pasquale or sign up visit the website or call the store at 304-694-0963.
