Some local chefs brought their A-Game to Jawbone Park in Buckhannon Friday night to compete in the "Country Roads Cook-Off."
It was part of Upshur County's 2013 Summer Lineup of Events on Festival Fridays.
The chefs began offering up free samples of their dishes earlier in the evening, and the judges, including WBOY's Jeff Schrock, picked the winner: Buckhannon's own Stan Rexroad.
"We cooked what's called 'West Virginia A La Mode.' It was a dessert. These are all local products that are made in West Virginia. It was corn crepes, homemade maple ice cream, with Bourbon glazed grilled peaches, and candied bacon that we made ourselves and smoked in cherry wood," said Rexroad.
Rexroad's dish also won the People's Choice Award. He said he didn't expect such a demand for his dessert and said he'd love to come back next year. Rexroad is even considering competing in a statewide cook-off in Morgantown next year.
Festival Fridays is a collaboration between the Upshur County Convention Visitors Bureau and Create Buckhannon. The groups' mission is to create the opportunity for residents to buy and sell West Virginia grown or produced products while creating an inviting atmosphere for all citizens to enjoy.
