Parents who drop off their kids at Eastwood Elementary in Morgantown Thursday will have to go through the new roundabout on the Mileground. The new roundabout opened on June 26 and drivers have been getting used to it ever since.
The authorities closed the Route 705 entry Thursday morning, making the roundabout the only way to drive in or out of the school.
The Route 705 entry will remain closed and Eastwood Elementary Principal DeAnn Hartshorn said the new intersection is actually quite convenient.
"If there are people who are concerned about it, and we've had very few that are concerned, we let them know that we use it on a daily basis, and once you get used to it you're really going to like it. It does really decrease traffic time, and that it is safe," Hartshorn said.
Lane selection is the key to navigating the roundabout. If you're driving up Route 705, use the left lane to make a three-quarter turn into the school. If you're driving up Route 119, use the left lane to make a half-turn into the school. If you're on the Mileground, use the right lane to make an easy quarter turn into the school.
