The Fairmont General Hospital Foundation has received a grant that will go toward its latest campaign.
The $10,000 Bowers Grant will go toward a navigational bronchoscopy system for the hospital.
The foundation estimates it will cost $180,000.
The system will produce real time 3-D images, enabling physicians to take biopsies of the lungs. The machine will allow patients to stay in Marion County, rather than go to Morgantown or Bridgeport.
"I think when the community finds out what this piece of equipment, within a matter of minutes can tell you if you have anything serious, they will realize it will be a tremendous asset to the community and us," said Frank Pulice, Jr., of the FGH Foundation.
The Foundation said it expects to complete its campaign for the navigational bronchoscopy system by the end of the year.
