We've told you about the Marion County Commission's plan to revitalize Palatine Park but the commission still is trying to work out a deal on the property with the City of Fairmont.
"They were very, very impressed with the site," said Charlie Reese, Marion County Development Authority.
The 'they' being referred to, is the Division of Natural Resources.
Marion County officials are continuing to discuss ways to bring Palatine Park in Fairmont back to life.
Holding bass tournaments is one of the latest ideas.
"It's really going to open up the riverfront for activities, for festivals and for bass tournaments and on down the line. We are going to put in big pavilions and small pavilions. Really open it up for a lot of group activities down there," said Tony Michalski, Marion County Parks and Recreation.
The Marion County Commission debuted plans for a splash park at its weekly meeting on Wednesday.
Commissioners said it's one of many things the community can expect to see in the coming months.
"We are working on boat docks, we are working on a splash park, we are working on sidewalks through it that haven't existed," said Randy Elliott, Marion County Commission President.
The Commission said it is still waiting to hear back from the City of Fairmont about the ownership of the property.
"We just have a plan and we want to develop it. We have the economic expertise and we have the money to follow our plans and move forward. We hope that this can be worked out. But it's a situation where its a win-win for everybody," Commissioner Elliott said.
There will be a public forum held at the Women's Club of Fairmont on August 15, where the community can share their input on the park. The forum will start at 5:30 p.m.
