If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

CHARLESTON, WV -

Senate President Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall, has removed Sen. Evan Jenkins, D-Cabell, from all leadership positions within the West Virginia Senate immediately.

Jenkins has been rumored to be planning a party switch to run for Congress in the next election cycle. Click here for our previous coverage on the subject.

He had been serving as chairman of the Minority Affairs and Pensions Committee and also was vice chairman of the Health and Human Resources Committee.

Jenkins, 52, was elected to the House of Delegates in 1994, and in 2002 he was elected to the West Virginia Senate.

"Refusing to dispel rumors that he is switching to the Republican Party in order to possibly run for Congress shows that he has no allegiance to his democratic colleagues or the constituents that elected him," Kessler said in a news release. "I do not want anyone on my leadership team or in a leadership position that does not show decisiveness or loyalty."

Kessler said replacements for Jenkins will be named at a later date.
