Hundreds of people came out to Upshur County for its annual Relay for Life event at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School on Friday night.
This is the 16th annual Relay for Life in Upshur County.
The Relay began with opening ceremonies at 6:30, followed by a survivor walk. Participants said they enjoyed the caregivers walk because they were able to share another year with their loved one.
It will continue until 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
More than 300 participants came out to support the battle against cancer. Just as many people came out to participate in the relay in 2012.
There were drawings, games, and entertainment throughout the entire night. There were also plenty of things for the kids to do such as play in a bounce house and participate in games on the lawn.
Luminaries' were lit in memory of those who have lost the fight against cancer.
Survivors said the support they constantly receive from their families, friends, and the community is overwhelming.
"It is wonderful to have another day and God give me another day," said Doris Westfall, survivor. "My friends are wonderful and have been so supportive. Every time I have fallen down they have picked me up and they're my family. These people are your family. They're your brothers and sisters and you're here to help them too."
Upshur County Relay For Life raised more than $65,000.
