Melanie's Family Restaurant serves traditional American food styles.
"I never dreamed I would have a restaurant, I had never planned on it," said Melanie Fisher, owner.
Fisher came up to Aurora in Preston County, found an empty building and made it into a restaurant. Now 17 years later she still loves cooking.
"I love to cook, I cook in the kitchen I spend most of my time back there," Fisher said.
Melanie's has nine employees, some family members and others who've worked there for more than 10 years. Fisher calls the restaurant a real family place. Don't be surprised if you see the customers helping themselves with another cup of coffee and going from table to table.
"They come in get their coffee, go into the kitchen and talk to the employees. People if they have no tables they sit with each other, they share their dinners so that makes it nice," Fisher said.
Talking about the food, Melanie's is known for its turkey and the trimmings on Sundays and Spaghetti night on Mondays. Customers agree that the food brings you back more than once, like Aurora resident Al Lewis. You'll probably find him at the restaurant for breakfast and then again for lunch.
Fisher said you don't feel like a stranger when you walk through the doors.
"To feed somebody, making them feel at home, talk to them about what's going on in their life, so it's more social," Fisher said.
Melanie's made me feel at home. In fact, I stayed a few hours just talking with Fisher and enjoying the good food.
Melanie's is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Breakfast is available all day. It also serves lunch and dinner. It's located off Route 50 in Aurora across from Cathedral State Park.
