The Marion County Commission recently unveiled its newest plan to revitalize Palatine Park in downtown Fairmont.
It said it has received an overwhelming amount of community support.
Residents have attended commission meetings to voice their opinions on what they would like to see and are even offering to hold a public forum.
Residents said it's been a long time coming and plans to revitalize Palatine Park date back to the 1950s.
"We are behind Clarksburg, Morgantown, Bridgeport and we need to step it up. They are committed to do just that. They will do it. They have the money. They have the property. It's a go," said Nancy Bickerstaff, Fairmont resident.
Half of everything beyond the amphitheater towards the Third Street Bridge belongs to the City of Fairmont.
The commission is negotiating with the city for full ownership.
